Cereal Processing

Wheat Milling
The names Henry Simon & Thomas Robinson are still world renowned in Wheat milling. Satake's acquisition of these companies in the early 1990's has been built on and developed to provide today's modern mills with the best process design, the most advanced machinery and latest control systems. Satake provide turnkey solutions for new flour mills all over the world. Typical installations include:
- Bread Flour Mills
- Biscuit Flour Mills
- Semolina Mills
- Starch Mills
- Maize Mills
- Combination (swing) Mills
- Speciality Mills for Rice Flour, Spices, Etc

Corn Milling
Corn, known as Maize outside North America, is one of the three principal cereal grains, with rice and wheat, grown for human and animal consumption. The Satake VBF Vertical method of dry degermination was launched six years ago, since them the technology has completely revolutionised the processing of maize. More than 80 system have been installed in southern Africa and many more in north and south America. The Satake VBF system provides superior extraction at reduced fat levels, whilst also eliminating the need for complex gravity separation systems to be installed after the degermination system. The Satake VBF system produces a higher percentage of grits and less flour. It also has the lowest specific energy usage.

Rye Milling
We feel justified in claiming specialized knowledge of Rye milling, having successfully commissioned, in recent years, Rye milling units in Norway, Canada and Great Britain. Using equipment, for both cleaning and milling, similar to that used in a conventional wheat mill, efficiency of a high order has been achieved.

Oat Milling
Although the cleaning, grading and processing of oats for flakes and meal is a limited market, Satake do not neglect the need of clients in this business and we are able to supply the process knowledge and the machinery required.

Barley Milling
Barley is usually milled in its malted form, after germination and kilning, to make malt flour. We design plants for the cleaning, kilning and milling of barley and are responsible for a number of successful installations.

Semolina Milling
The process of milling Semolina from Durum Wheat is totally different from the milling of all other types of wheat.  When the Satake PeriTec Debranning Process is applied to Durum Milling, the resultant pasta has a much improved brighter colour, the mill diagram is simpler and a higher percentage of top grade semolina is produced. The increasing consumption of pasta foods demands a high level of technology in the milling process to supply top quality semolina for this expanding market. Satake have developed a milling system to meet this demand, and, as a result of Satake research into Semolina milling, better results are now being obtained. Many of the PeriTec Systems that Satake have supplied for Durum Milling are installed in front of mills that were already existing. All mills have experienced increased capacity, greatly increased coarse semolina production and a significant reduction in lower grade flour production.

Milling for Ethanol Production
Satake Corporation have developed specific processes and mill designs for ethanol production. We have established solutions for milling maize (corn), wheat and barley for ethanol. For corn over 100 million gallons per year of ethanol is already produced using the Satake Dry Grain Fractionation System. The Satake PeriTec Debranning System for wheat and barley is also applied in ethanol production. Removal of much of the bran before hammer milling increases the efficiency of the subsequent wet processing. Similarly, where the wheat or barley is milled using rollermills, the amount of equipment required in the mill can be significantly reduced.

Modular Mill
Satake has continued to push forward their technology with the introduction of the Modular Mill Concept. These 5ton/hour modular mills enable rapid installation in warehouses. Technology used is the same as in the larger mill designs but in a compact footprint.
