Cereal Processing Equipment

Satake manufactures a full range of cleaning machines which are suitable for cereals such as wheat, maize, rye, barley and rice. They can also be applied to other food products like corn, soy, peanuts, sorghum, coffee, etc. Satake machines are also used for cleaning seeds before sowing, and for the processing of breakfast cereals.

Satake machines can remove the following typical contaminants: stones, glass, straw, dust, hessian, hair, broken grains, mud balls, foreign grains, and sand.

The cleaning machines are designed to be virtually maintenance-free. Sealed-for-life bearings and no-maintenance drives are used wherever possible. The range of equipment includes; milling separators, aspirators, gravity selectors, feeders, horizontal scourers, water addition equipment, hydrator mixers, kernel washers, etc.

For energy efficiency, "closed circuit" aspirators are available. By recycling exhaust air within the aspirator, minimum external exhaust air is required. This reduces the power consumption of external exhaust systems and improves hygiene and installation costs.




The PeriTec Wheat Debranning System

PeriTec is a unique process (developed by Satake) which can be utilized in the cereal milling industry for applications such as debranning wheat, dehulling barley and degerming maize. The PeriTec process sequentially removes the outer kernel bran layers prior to milling or subsequent processing, which optimizes the yield and reduces the amount of bran contamination in the finished product. The equipment used in the PeriTec process is able to sequentially strip the bran layers, giving the degree of control that the commercial flour miller demands. With one machine, bran removal rates can be adjusted from a few percent (in order to heavy scourer the outside of the grain) to 10.0-12.0%, required for some specialized processes. Satake's many years of experience shows that for the majority of mills, the optimum bran removal for high quality bread making flour is in the region of 6.0-6.5%, and for durum semolina milling, 8.0-8.5% respectively.

Another advantage of the PeriTec System is its flexibility. The ability to adjust the amount of bran removed is ideal for mills required to produce a range of products such as wholemeals, browns and white flours. When producing wholemeal flours, the abrasion chamber can be bypassed and only the friction chamber used to heavy scour. When the mill produces white flour, the whole machine is used and higher optimum debranning rates are achieved.

The PeriTec process is fully automated and features a control system that adjusts for variations in the nature of the raw product being fed into the system. The PeriTec debranning process also has important applications in starch and ethanol product systems, where the removal of bran prior to milling can substantially improve the efficiency and performance of subsequent processes.

PeriTec vs. Conventional Flour Milling
During the 20th century the conventional wheat milling system became dominant for the production of bread flour and high extraction white flour. The PeriTec System removes the wheat bran layers, apart from that which is in the crease, before milling. Hence, there is less bran to remove so the milling 'break' system can be shortened and a greater amount of semolina and middlings is produced with a better product color. Mill flow diagrams are less complex as there is less bran (a potential contaminant of white flour) to be processed in the mill. A conventional milling system loses most of the nutritionally-rich aleurone cell layer, as it does not effectively strip it from the inside of flakes of bran. The PeriTec system allows substantially more of the aleurone cells to be released. The removal of the peripheral bran, prior to milling, results in finished products that are brighter in color and free of bran specks while retaining more of the nutritional components of wheat than a conventional milling system. The process is exceptionally effective when used in durum semolina mills as it allows a large amount of coarse, clean, semolina to be released early in the milling system. The semolina mill diagram is less complex than a conventional semolina mill. It can also be utilized in starch and gluten-production plants. The reduction in the risk of bran contamination reduces the potential problem of undesirably high fiber content in the flour going to the starch extraction plant. Recent results from several United Kingdom mills prove that the PeriTec System improves the Hagberg Falling Number of wheat. This allows the miller to avoid problems in a year of low Hagberg values, or to take advantage of purchasing lower cost, low Hagberg wheats and then improving them in the mill using the PeriTec Process.

The following is a summary of advantages when applying the PeriTec debranning system. Improved product quality and removal of harmful elements. Higher yields, increased capacity, granulation enhancements, and lower wheat costs. Enhanced nutritional value and value added co-products. Longer roll life and flow simplification.


Sifters and Purifiers

Versatility is one of the many requirements of milling, and Satake sifters are designed to give optimum results over a variety of sifting operations and capacities. Capable of several separations, the range of sizes available allows their inclusion in any milling scheme. The application of efficient purification is best served by the Satake purifier. The purifier consists of two independent units, each with its own controls, for effective sieving and aspiration. It works side-by-side within a strong, lightweight metal frame. Purifiers can be superimposed, a configuration most useful where space is limited or repurification is required. By a combination of sifting and aspiration, the machine removes bran particles, and grades the stock into several degrees of purity.

Satake sifters are capable of separating powdered and granular materials by size differential. The SPSB Plansifter can make up to 7 separations per section. The Minisifter and N-Sifter are particularly suited to smaller applications where a sized product is required i.e. oversize, good product and undersize. The sifters multi-sieve decks create a much larger overall sieving area when compared to vibratory or centrifugal machines of the same 'footprint' size. Most of Satake's sifters use a planetary motion which avoids much of the product degradation associated with centrifugal and vibratory machines. It also prevents 'upending' of elongated products.

Typical applications include: wheat, rice and maize products production, carbon black processing, herb and spice manufacture, cocoa production, nuts, plastics and many other granular and powdered products. Many of Satake's sieving machines now benefit from the use of Satake's patented INTERLOCK sieving system, using hygienic plastic, instead of the traditional wood/melamine and felt construction.


SPSB Plansifter
The Satake Plansifter SPSB is engineered to give a wide range of capacities to meet all anticipated sifting requirements in the milling industry. The SPSB is produced in a modular range of four, six and eight- section machines, embracing two different stack heights of nominally 24 and 30 sieves. Three sieve sizes are available.

RMSA Minisifter
The RMSA is a high-capacity yet compact, free-standing unit used for separating particulate material in the food, chemical, pharmaceutical, plastics and similar process industries. The machine is capable of making up to 4 size separations per machine with a variety of internal flow schemes. The Minisifter is ideal for sieving large quantities of materials through fine apertures, particularly as a flour redresser in the flour milling industry.

STSA Duosifter
The Duosifter STSA is a compact high-capacity sifter which is ideal for many applications in cereal milling and food industries for sieving a wide range of granular and floury stocks. The STSA is particularly suitable for flour redressing (rebolt), maize (corn) milling and starch sieving. It can also be used for wheat grading and cleaning duties. The Duosifter STSA has two stack sections and is available in a stack height of fourteen sieves. Each section can make up to seven separations. The STSA is of a unique design that combines simplicity of construction and maintenance, while providing ease of access with compact dimensions and clean/hygienic operation.

N Sifter
The N Sifter is an exceptionally versatile, compact machine of high capacity which can be used for either general purpose sifting or flour redressing. The sifter consists of two independent nests of square sieves, capable of simultaneously handling two separate stocks.

SVSB Vibrosifter
The Satake Vibrosifter SVSB is especially designed for efficient sifting of difficult stocks encountered in cereal milling processes. For example, filter flours, bran finisher throughs and maize (corn) flours which are fine, sticky and can have high oil or moisture content.

PLSB Series 2000 Laboratory Sifter
The Satake Laboratory Sifter PLSB provides a rapid method of carrying out particle size determinations. It is designed to use either a stack of up to four 255mm wooden sieves with lid and receiver or four 200mm diameter Endecott brass sieves. The sifter oscillates the table and nest of sieves attached to it in a planetary motion similar to that of sifters commonly used in flour milling and similar industries.

SPU Purifier
The Satake Purifier SPU is a high-capacity, triple-deck machine providing the highest level of operating efficiency. The Purifier has a fabricated chassis with box section strengthening supports. Maintenance-free rubber springs are located on the box section supports and carry the sieve assembly.

SNR & SNRD Two High Rollermill
The Satake SNR Rollermill is the latest in cereal milling technology. The new features of the SNR are a true step change in machine and process design. Every aspect of milling operation has been considered, leading to ground-breaking and innovative solutions. Hygiene and sanitation are key to many of the new features of the machine. Enhancements to the roll HTD drive, feed arrangement and electronic control systems will be appreciated by both millers and engineers alike.

SRM and SRMD Two High Rollermill
Satake has a deserved reputation for its commitment to research and development, the most effective method of answering the needs of today’s demanding market. The Satake Rollermill design team has perfected every aspect of the SRM rollermill, a machine that not only incorporates the very latest technology, but is also simple and user-friendly. A compact machine with great strength and high capacity, the SRM is the state of the art in rollermill technology.

UMS Discmill
The patented UMS Discmill Type MHA 600 grinds product between two discs, upon which are mounted corrugated grinding elements. The profile and size of the corrugations, much like the fluting used on rollermills, is one of the factors which determines the characteristics of the ground product. Two other important factors influencing the grind characteristic are speed of rotation and the gap between the grinding elements.

SPM Pinmill
The Satake Pin Mill SPM is a multi-purpose, in-line machine specially designed for high rotor speeds for high continuous grinding, infestation destruction and mixing a wide range of cereal products conveyed under suction (vertical mount type) gravity or suction (horizontal mount type). The principle application is its use to grind clean middlings and fine semolina into flour with minimum increase in starch damage. On this duty it can replace a rollermill in the mill diagram.

Roll Change Trolley for SRM and SRMD Rollermill
The Satake Roll Change Trolley makes changing roll packs on the SRM Rollermill and SRMD Two High Rollermill quick and easy. The machine is solidly constructed and capable of handling both 1,000 and 1,250mm rolls. The lifting platform can be raised and lowered using either the built-in hydraulic hand pump and/or electrically using the onboard power pack connected to a 110V or 240V power source. The trolley features parking brake, directional castor locks and can be maneuvered by one person. Contoured heavy-duty nylon locators allow the roll pack to be lifted and maneuvered safely. The trolley’s sliding head permits accurate final adjustment.
